Citizens for Fair Fields
Citizens for Fair Fields is a community of local farmers, friends, family, and neighbors located in and around Fairfield county, Ohio (including Buckeye Lake, Millersport, Walnut, Liberty, and Richland Township areas). We’ve come together to help inform our local community about the proposed utility-scale solar project set to be constructed in the region’s agricultural spaces and surrounding neighborhoods.

We are a pro-agriculture grass roots group of concerned citizens in Fairfield County, Ohio. We recognize that our area is blessed with prime farmland and our mission is to educate our neighbors about the industrial solar projects being planned for our county.
The three industrial scale solar projects planned for Fairfield County include:
- Eastern Cottontail, ~2278 acres spanning across Walnut, Richland, and Pleasant townships but there could be more!
- Carnation Solar, ~1700 acres in Amanda township
- Ripley Solar, ~700 acres in Liberty and Walnut townships
For more information on Carnation Solar, please visit Amanda township’s website: https://www.thissolarthing.org/home
They also include a very educational FAQs page: https://www.thissolarthing.org/home/faq
Our main concerns:
- Loss of prime farmland in Fairfield County
- Destruction of wildlife habitats
- Environmental issues such as drainage/damage to tiles, water runoff, soil/well contamination if panels are damaged
- Zoning: utility companies do not have to abide by our current zoning rules and regulations. Currently, industrial solar projects can be developed on property zoned rural residential or agricultural without going through zoning.
- Property values of homes, zoned rural residential, that will be surrounded by the solar complexes
- Property rights: local government, such as townships, write zoning laws to determine what landowners can do with their property. You can expect certain limitations to be placed on the property by local townships, municipalities, etc. These rules were put in place to assure property values are not degraded by your neighbors actions that can be detrimental to other property owners.
- Efficiency of solar in Ohio as opposed to sunnier states
- Loss of agriculture jobs in Ohio
- Visual impact of a massive solar complex, destroying green spaces, and natural aesthetics
- During year+ long construction: damage to roads, traffic, dust, noise, again disrupting rural peace
- Decommissioning concerns
